BUTLER COUNTY PUBLIC BUILDING COMMISSION MEETING

CALL TO ORDER

Commission Chairman Mike Wheeler called the Butler County Board of Commissioners to order at 10:00 a.m.  Present were Commissioner Will Carpenter, Commissioner Randy Doll, Commissioner Randy Waldorf, Commissioner Dan Woydziak, Administrator Will Johnson Jr., and Clerk Recorder Tammy Bridges.

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Commissioner Carpenter motioned to approve the minutes of the Butler County Public Building Commission Meeting of Monday, March 21, 2005 as amended.  Commissioner Woydziak seconded the motion.  Motion carried 4-0.  Commissioner Waldorf abstained since he was not at that meeting.

 

ITEM #1 – RECEIVE AND OPEN BIDS BY GENERAL CONTRACTORS FOR REMODEL WORK IN THE EAST ANNEX TO THE BUTLER COUNTY COURTHOUSE

Will Johnson, Administrator, came before the Board to receive and open bids for remodel work for the East Annex building project.  On August 30, 2004 the County Commission initiated a contract for design with PKHL Architects to begin design work on the East Annex to the Butler County Courthouse.  The County Commission approved the publication of an intent to issue bonds for the purpose of financing the project on February 14, 2005.  On February 22, 2004 the County Commission received final plans and timetable for the project from the architect.  Currently five general contractors have met the requirements for bidding and the architect is expecting bids from all contractors.  Bids are to be delivered to the County Administrator’s office no later than 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 5, 2005.  The Architect’s estimate was $2,735,000.  All bids were over estimate and the Commission requested the Administrator to look at alternatives to reduce costs.  Base bids were received from:

                                    Conco                          $3,009,000

                                    Harbin                          $2,985,000

                                    Sauerwein                    $3,130,000

 

Commissioner Doll motioned to receive the bids for remodel work for the East Annex to the Butler County Courthouse and allow the architect to review the bids and recommend a contractor for approval by the Commission.  Commissioner Carpenter seconded the motion.  Motion carried 5-0.

 

ITEM #2 – RECEIVE AND OPEN BIDS FOR 9-1-1 CONSOLE FURNITURE FOR THE EAST ANNEX TO THE BUTLER COUNTY COURTHOUSE

Chris Davis, 9-1-1 Director, came before the Board to open sealed bids for 9-1-1 console furniture for the East Annex.  The current bid includes furniture for eight counsels, and may be reduced to six depending upon available funds.  This furniture is estimated at $110,000 to be paid for through project funds. 

 

Bids were received from:

                        Watson Furniture Group              $  99,393.50

Wrightline                                     $  73,893.35

                        XYBIX Separates                                 $101,411.00

 

Commissioner Carpenter motioned to recommend the Director of Emergency Communications review the bids for the 9-1-1 console furniture needed for the East Annex remodeling project and return with a recommendation at a later date.  Commissioner Woydziak seconded the motion.  Motion carried 5-0.

 

ITEM #3 – CONSIDER APPROVAL OF A CONTRACT FOR ASBESTOS REMOVAL IN THE EAST ANNEX TO THE BUTLER COUNTY COURTHOUSE BETWEEN THE BUTLER COUNTY PUBLIC BUILDING COMMISSION AND ASBESTOS REMOVAL & MAINTENANCE, INC., OF WICHITA

Will Johnson, Administrator, came before the Board for approval of a contract with Asbestos Removal & Maintenance, Inc. in the amount of $6,125 for abatement of asbestos for the East Annex.  County Counsel, Norm Manley, has approved the contract.

 

Commissioner Woydziak motioned to approve the contract for asbestos removal with Asbestos Removal & Maintenance, Inc., in the amount of $6,125 and allow the President of the Public Building Commission to sign.  Commissioner Waldorf seconded the motion.  Motion carried 5-0.

 

OTHER ITEMS OF BUSINESS TO COME BEFORE THE BOARD

Commissioner Waldorf motioned to adjourn the meeting of the Board at 10:30 a.m.  Commissioner Woydziak seconded the motion.  Motion carried 5-0.
